Aberdeen

Kaisa’s family had split up many years ago. Her mother took up residency in Aberdeen; her father remained in Norway with Kaisa herself moving to London. In London the good times roll; the champagne flows, the boyfriends follow upon each other’s heels, and the future seems bright. One morning Kaisa awakes to the sound of the telephone ringing. It is her Mum. She tries hard to convince Kaisa to see to it that her father, whom she has not seen in ten years, comes to Aberdeen, in order to undergo a treatment program for alcoholics.

The acknowledged prize-winning Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland took on the production and one of the main characters was played by Stellan Skarsgård. The film received a large number of international prizes and was the Norwegian Oscar candidate in the year 2000. The film cost over 40 million SEK to make.

In an interview with the Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper in May of 2009 Stellan Skarskård deemed that his best films were Norwegian, and he exclaimed “Aberdeen is one of the ones which I am most satisfied with personally”.
